Founded in 2015, For Us – 4U, is a 501c3 nonprofit organization in Indiana, with a focus on equity in higher education for students from marginalized communities in the Unites States and worldwide. Our mission is to provide the assistance needed for high school students, community members, and returning students from underprivileged communities to attend a college, university, or trade school of YOUR choice. At FU, we assist and support the disenfranchised through inclusive educational opportunity by ensuring that youth and young adults from challenged communities have the access and opportunity to pursue and achieve their educational and personal goals. Additionally, we provide them with access to new, enriching experiences and we encourage them to build solid systems of support. Because building rapport is an important tool in achieving success, we provide various opportunities for them to cultivate and nurture relationships with academic, professional, religious and art educators, mentors, and communities. The acronym “F U” is meant to shock your system. It represents both the implicit and explicit bias that some people have based on the economic status of others. The judgement they feel and apply in their actions towards individuals that come from lower income brackets negatively impacts inclusive access to opportunity. “F U”, represents the phrase, FOR US; 4 U. This acronym stands for Forever, Our, Right, United, Stand, For, Us. The words represent a movement centered on continued education, and furthered experiences through civic engagement. We provide students from low to moderate income communities locally, regionally, and abroad with the opportunity to attend the college of their choice, along with access to the tools and resources that will support them along the way. We not only enhance the quality of their lives, but we change the trajectory for generations to come.
